Congratulations on finding a good agent (her good luck to have found YOU!) and good luck with the move. I was wondering where you and the family were looking to put down new roots. Keeping the whole gang of you in my atheist prayers! <3
Congrats on the literary agent!!! I sense it’ll feel good to finally get settled. It can be grueling being on the road constantly. Even when you’re sightseeing and enjoying where you’re going, like in a foreign country, it can be a drag, and when you’re not, yikes. 😊
There’s a super interesting book based on your idea here, called Mind and Motion and Monisom. It discusses how all life is matter in motion and says that if all mind is composed of matter in motion, than it’s not too much of a stretch to hypothesize that l matter in motion is somehow mind.
Your opener sparked up fond memories of that book.
I suppose you have probably read Lenin's "Materialism and Empiriocriticism"? It's been about fifteen years since I read it, but I remember he talks about the relationship of thought and mind and matter. He was dealing with the Machists, who believed mind was not material, but also taking up the crude materialists who believed that thought was nothing but matter. At the time, brain science was not as sophisticated as today (it's still in its infancy, to be honest) but Lenin basically reasoned that "thought is a product of matter, but is not matter" since thoughts are both the product of chemical and electrical impulses in the physical brain and also the product of the whole cultural and historical accumulation of humankind (otherwise how could we explain our thoughts involving things like Bible or Shakespeare quotes, you know?). Lenin drew a lot from Engels' earlier "Dialectics of Nature" which took up matter in motion specifically. I think this is such a fascinating intersection of philosophy and science.
I have not actually. I’m pretty sure I have it--just haven’t gotten around to reading it. I’ll have to check. Yeah, these subjects totally fascinate me as well. Even though Romans book is old, I still dig it. There’s some excellent stuff on that line between science and philosophy. Cool stuff happens when we don’t force ourselves into a rigid discipline.
Edie! You solved the missing email mystery, I see! and living out of 2 suitcases with kids in tow, wow. Somehow I had missed that. As someone who is also looking for a permanent landing place, solidarity hugs! sent your way. And congratulations on the agenting and the novel! -- Kyla

Thank you so much! It's been a whirlwind but we hope to settle soon.

Thank you! I do my best to make the best of things. There's a lot to enjoy in a new place... but yes. Definitely feeling the exhaustion.
